Jail head didn’t force dera chief to endorse Cong: Probe
A written complaint to CEO stated the Rohtak jail superintendent was forcing Ram Rahim to vote for party as he was a Congress leader’s son
ROHTAK : The Rohtak district administration has conducted an inquiry into the complaint accusing Rohtak jail superintendent of forcing jail inmates, including Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, to endorse the Congress for the upcoming elections.
Rohtak deputy commissioner Yash Garg said the matter was investigated and no truth was found in the allegations.
A written complaint against jail superintendent Sunil Sangwan was filed with the chief electoral officer (CEO) Haryana, alleging that Sangwan was forcing the dera chief to endorse the Congress since he was the son of Congress leader Satpal Sangwan.
The CEO Haryana had forwarded the complaint to Rohtak district electoral officer and an inquiry in the case was ordered by the deputy commissioner under an Sdm-rank officer. “The inquiry was conducted after we received the complaint. But no such thing has been found. Thus, we have filed our report and sent it to the CEO Haryana for their consideration,” Garg said.
Dera chief Ram Rahim has been lodged in Rohtak’s Sunaria jail after he was convicted of raping two of his female disciples in August 2017. He is undergoing a 20-year rigorous imprisonment for rape cases and a life imprisonment for a murder case.
The head of a massive clout that continues to influence a large number of followers, Ram Rahim used to officially announce his support to political parties before elections.
Rahim’s followers would then vote for the party he had announced the support for. The Dera chief had supported the BJP in the 2014 assembly elections in Haryana.
