HSGMC faction threatens to boycott BJP candidates
SIX MEMBERS OF THE HSGMC (AD HOC), CLAIMED THE DECISION WAS “UNANIMOUS” AND ACCUSED SOME SENIOR MEMBERS OF IGNORING THE ISSUES RELATED TO THE COMMUNITY
KARNAL: THE bickering in the Haryana Sikh Gurdwra Management Committee (ad hoc) came to fore on Tuesday when members of one group threatened to boycott BJP candidates in Lok Sabha elections in the state.
A meeting of the group, attended by six members of the HSGMC (ad hoc), claimed the decision was “unanimous” and accused some senior HSGMC members of ignoring the issues related to the community.
HSGMC (ad hoc) joint secretary Karnail Singh claimed that most of the members supported the decision.
The meeting also decided to continue the boycott Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar for not tendering an apology for cancelling his visit to the Dachar village gurdwara last year after the shrine management refused to remove a portrait of Khalistan ideologue Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, he told reporters.
The meeting also accused HSGMC president Jagdish Singh Jhinda and acting president Didar Singh Nalvi of playing into the hands of political parties, he said.
“Everybody knows that Jhinda and Nalvi are misusing their positions to fulfill their interests,” he added.
Charanjit Singh, chairman of the committee’s legal cell, said, “The decision to support any political party will be taken in the state-level meeting soon.”
Nalvi refuted the allegations and said the members should not have gone to the media. If they had any issue, they should have discussed it with the senior members, he said.
On the decision to boycott BJP candidates, Nalvi said, “The committee does not have a political agenda. I don’t want to comment on the decision, but I know only six of the 41 members of the committee attended the meeting.”
