Oliver Kahn role at Bayern next year, says Hoeness

BERLIN: Ex-germany goalkeeper Oliver Kahn is expected to take on a boardroom role at Bayern Munich as early as January 2020, club president Uli Hoeness said on Tuesday. Bayern CEO Karlheinz Rummenigge, whose contract expires in 2021, confirmed last week that former club captain Kahn is in line to be his successor. Hoeness said that Kahn would return to Bayern at the beginning of next year in order to ease him into the job ahead of Rummenigge’s departure.

LONDON:AN English FA panel that cleared Crystal Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey of making a Nazi salute said in a written report that the player had shown a “lamentable” ignorance of Adolf Hitler and fascism. In reasoning published on the FA website, the panel set out why the Wales internatio­nal was cleared after being pictured with his right arm in the air in a photo posted on Instagram by his German teammate at Palace Max Meyer. Hennessey had said he was simply raising his right arm to attract the attention of a waiter taking the photograph, while also cupping his left hand over his mouth to make his voice carry.

MINERVA EYE WIN

DHAKA: Issues related to the nonavailab­ility of their home match venues sorted for the time being, former I-league champions Minerva Punjab would look to notch up their maiden win in the AFC Cup when they take on Abahani Limited Dhaka here on Wednesday. Minerva qualified for the AFC Cup on the basis of winning the 2017-18 I-league but they had a forgettabl­e outing in the just-concluded season, finishing second from bottom with only four wins from 19 matches.
