Sarpanch among two arrested with 1kg heroin

JALANDHAR: Police have arrested two drug peddlers, including sitting village sarpanch of Ferozepur, with 1kg heroin near Baba Budha Ji Canal Bridge in Basti Bawa Khel here on Monday.

The accused were identified as Vikram Singh (24) of Fatehwala Hithar village and Karanvir Singh (24) of Kishore Singh Wale village in Ferozepur . Vikram is sarpanch of Fatehwala village.

Commissioner of police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that a team of Basti Bawa Khel police station and CIA Staff-1 had laid a trap near Canal Bridge on Jalandhar-kapurthala road after receiving a tip-off.

He said the police party was told that Vikram along with Karanvir were heading to Jalandhar for delivering a heavy consignment of heroin in an SUV, following which the cops arrested them and recovered the heroin.

Bhullar said Vikram revealed that he took up the business from his father Raj Singh, who is lodged in a Rajasthan jail for the last five months. My father had been in drug business for last five years and after his arrest, i started selling drugs, he told the commissioner.

Bhullar said that Karanvir is a student of BA final year in RSD College, Ferozepur, and was working with Vikram for last five months.

A case under Sections 21,61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered against the duo at Basti Bawa Khel police station.

BSF SEIZES 5KG HEROIN IN FEROZEPUR

FEROZEPUR: The Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday recovered 5kg of heroin worth ₹25 crore near the border here, foiling an attempt by the drug traffickers to smuggle the consignment into the country through water route.

The consignment, seized near Shameke BOP under Ferozepur sector, was smuggled from Pakistan and was being pushed through water channel on Sutlej.

BSF spokesman said the smugglers were getting innovative and had found water channel to smuggle the consignment this time around, but efforts were on to identify the local smugglers to break the network.

The BSF had also seized 3kg heroin in Ferozepur sector on Sunday.
