CHANDIGARH: An election commission (EC) team reviewed preparations regarding the upcoming Haryana assembly polls during a day-long meeting with state government functionaries here on Wednesday.

Senior deputy election commissioner Sandeep Saxena chaired the meeting wherein EC director general (election expenditure) Dilip Sharma was also present.

According to a state government spokesperson, Saxena directed officials to make special arrangements for the disabled voters, which he said should be made available in small towns too. He asked the state officials to keep a close watch on the election expenditure and added that web casting should be carried out at more than 10% of total polling booths.

In a bid to increase the voting percentage, a special campaign will be launched in which information about EVMS and VVPAT machines will be given to people through a dedicated vehicle. Chief electoral officer Anurag Aggarwal said a special campaign was being run to encourage female voters and college students, who are 18-19 years old, to cast their votes.

In order to increase the percentage of female voters in Faridabad, Mewat, Palwal, Jind, Sirsa, Yamunanagar and Panchkula, district electoral officers concerned have been directed to motivate women.

Additional director general of police and state nodal officer for assembly elections Navdeep Singh Virk informed that 258 police check posts have been set up in Haryana.

He said 268 blocks will be set up in the areas adjoining neighbouring states.
