THE VICTIM ALLEGED THAT THE ACCUSED THREATENED TO KILL HER AND FAMILY MEMBERS IF THEY REPORTED THE MATTER

AMRITSAR : A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped by her brother-in-law while the victim’s family members were thrashed by his aides in Ajnala area of the district, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place on April 25 in Bhindi Saidan village. As per the victim’s complaint, the accused Jassa Singh (brother-in-law), a local, and his wife Sona Kaur were infuriated after she got married against their wishes.

“My sister and her husband (accused) wanted me to marry someone of their choice. However, when I acted against their wishes, they planned a conspiracy against me,” the victim alleged.

RELATIVES THRASHED BY AIDES

According to her, she was home along with her sister-in-law when the accused barged into the house.

“He forcefully took me to a room and raped me. My sisterin-law was continuously trying to break the door lock and was alarming the neighbours when Jassa’s aides came and thrashed her and my mother-in-law with sharp-edged weapons. They were badly injured,” the victim alleged, adding that she someone managed to break open the lock and escape.

Soon after, Jassa and his aides fled away from the spot, she added.

The victim also alleged that the accused had threatened to kill her and the family members if they reported the incident.

A case was registered under Sections 376 (punishment for rape) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) against the accused while his aides— Saba Singh, Rajbir Singh, Rattan Singh (Jassa’s cousin), Shinda Singh and his wife Sona Kaur— were charged under 120 B (whoever is a party to a criminal conspiracy to commit an offence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Investigation is on, said inspector Balvinder Kaur.
