WHAT THE LAW PROPOSES
■ Intercepted audio conversation and police confessions are admissible in court
■ The investigation period can be extended from 90 days to 180
■ No accused person shall be released on bail or on his/her personal bond
■ The state government can set up special courts and appoint special law officers to handle the cases filed under the law
TRACKING THE BILL
■ In 2003, the Gujarat government first proposed a law to check organised crime on the lines of Maharashtra Control of Organised Control Act (MCOCA)
■ The proposed law was rejected twice during the UPA govt
■ In 2015, the Gujarat government revised the draft bill to include terrorism, which was approved with a majority vote under the NDA government
