CRPF inspector, lover arrested for murder of wife in Amritsar

Duo hired killers for ₹5 lakh; self-styled Sirsa godman also held

AMRITSAR: Two days after Baljit Kaur, 37, wife of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) inspector was found strangled to death at her house in Azad Nagar of Kot Khalsa area on Wednesday, police arrested the husband, his lover, a self-styled god-man and booked two men, the absconding contract killers, on Friday.

Police say the husband Gurminder Singh, posted with the 85 Battalion in Chandigarh, gave the contract for killing for his wife on a suggestion from a selfstyled godman, Gurvinder Singh alias Gora, son of Dara Singh, of Dabwali town in Haryana. Gora runs a dera.

The CIA staff of the police cracked the case based on CCTV footage in which the two men,

Sukhdeep and Desa, were found entering the house. The CRPF inspector was in an affair with Veerpal Kaur, of Jalandhar, and the murder was planned after Baljit. repeatedly objected to the affair.

“CRPF inspector Gurminder and Veerpal used to visit the Dera of a self-styled god-man, Gurvinder Singh alias Gora, son of Dara Singh, at Dabwali town of Haryana. The duo, after consulting and getting a nod from Gurvinder, planned a conspiracy to kill his wife. Gora then instructed Sukhdeep Singh alias Japi, of Dabwali, and Desa, of Bathinda to kill the CRPF inspector’s wife. Kaur, visited Amritsar, a day before killing the woman,” police commission­er Sukhchain Singh Gill told a press conference on Friday.

“Sukhdeep and Desa visited the house on Wednesday and told the victim that her husband had sent a parcel for her. After gaining access, the duo killed and strangulat­ed the woman, before fleeing to Jalandhar. Veerpal then gave ₹2 lakh of predecided ₹5 lakh ransom to the duo near the Jalandhar bus stand,” the commission­er added.

“A case has been registered against the accused at Islamabad police station, under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) of the IPC. The accused will be produced in court,” said the commission­er.
