Two key accused held for murder of CRPF inspector’s wife

AMRITSAR: The city police on Wednesday arrested two key accused in connection with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) inspector’s wife murder.

The arrested accused have been identified as Sukhdeep Singh alias Japi (24), son of Sarabjeet Singh and resident of Dabwali; and Desa (19), son of Jagtar Singh and resident of Bathinda. The police said the accused had strangulat­ed the victim to death after getting a ransom from her husband, his lover and a self styled god man.

The police had arrested CRPF inspector Gurminder Singh, his lover Veerpal Kaur and selfstyled godman Gurvinder Singh alias Gor on November 15.

DCP Investigat­ion and in charge of crime investigat­ion agency (CIA) staff of city police, Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar, said, “Gurminder, who was posted at 85 battalion in Chandigarh, had illicit relations with Veerpal Kaur of Jalandhar. Gurminder and Veerpal used to visit the Dera of Gurvinder Singh at Dabwali town in Haryana. Duo after consulting Gurvinder had given a ransom of ₹5lakh to Sukhdeep and Desa for killing Baljit.” Bhullar said Sukhdeep and Desa had entered the house of the woman on the incident day in the name of handing over a parcel to her on behalf of her husband. After entering the house, accused killed the woman with the help of their turban and fled to Jalandhar, he said. He said Veerpal met the accused following the incident and gave them ₹2 lakh near Jalandhar bus stand.

“We traced the location of the accused in Jalandhar and nabbed them. We will produce them in a court and seek their remand for further investigat­ion. We are yet to recover the ransom money,” He added.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the five accused at Islamabad police station under Sections 304 (murder), 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
