Mankind is drawn to the heavens for the same reason we were drawn into unknown lands and across the open sea. You cannot look up at the night sky on Earth and not wonder what it’s like to be among the stars. Outer space is a magical library, a place filled with unsolved mysteries, an unconquerable void. While studying this box of glitter spilled over an infinite black chart, one often comes across the question: “What is the benefit of all this?”

Throughout the years, the Indian Space Research Organisation or ISRO has upheld its mission of bringing space to the service of the common man and the nation.

In the process, it has become one of the six largest space agencies in the world.

The benefits include communication, remote sensing, technology advancement, weather forecasting, disaster sensing, broadcasting, employment and bring about unity and respect in country. What everyone at such times shares in common is not gender or ethnic background but motivation, perseverance and desire to participate in a voyage of discovery. Despite of all the stated benefits, let’s be honest, the biggest reason for all the efforts can be summed into one word, curiosity. Our primary reason is to satiate our curiosity. The benefits just came along the way. Two men looked out of the same bars, one sees mud and one sees stars. We still have a long way to go, let’s not give up and see what the cosmos has in store for us.
