ISRO came into existence in 1969 and since then India has greatly benefited from several space missions.

ISRO’S achievements over the years have created a standard par excellence for other government agencies. Chandrayaan-1 (2008), Mangalyaan (2014), Heaviest Commercial Mission (2015) and Chandrayaan-2 (2019) are exemplary missions carried out by ISRO. ISRO created a record by launching 104 satellites in single mission in 2017. ISRO has always tried to facilitate greater participation of Indian industries in space projects, their applications in the commercial domain and to take benefit of spin-offs of such technologies. It has always proved that it stands by the vision to harness space technology for national development. It plans to launch a manned mission in December 2021.

Space missions benefit the country as it develops new technology leading to advancement of science and engineering. Satellites are deployed in the geostationary orbit to provide protected military communication systems. It plays an important role in our daily lives such as telecommunication and television. Some satellites monitor signs of climate change, such as melting of ice and rising of sea levels. Space missions provide jobs to thousands of people across the country directly or indirectly. The country earns foreign currencies by launching satellites of other countries.
