Statehood to J&K in near future, curbs to end soon: Ram Madhav
JAMMU: BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav on Friday said statehood will be restored to Jammu and Kashmir in the near future and that the remaining curbs will also be removed soon to pave way for resumption of political activities.
The BJP government on August 5 had revoked Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. It had also bifurcated the state into two Union territories — Ladakh without legislature and J&K with legislature.
Addressing media persons here, Madhav said J&K will be granted statehood in the near future.
Madhav said that BJP was also in favour of removing remaining restrictions in the region. “Internet services have been restored in Kargil after Leh. Soon, they will be restored in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
“Four months ago, many people were put under preventive detention. But, today, only 30-32 prominent leaders are under preventive detention and the number is less than 100”, he said
On the situation on LOC, he said, “Our forces are fully alert and are giving a befitting response to Pakistan’s violations. Some more important information will emerge in the coming days,” he said.
‘POK INTEGRAL PART OF INDIA’
“The constitutional status of India on POK cannot be changed. It remains an integral part of India,” he said, while responding to a query about Pakistan bringing administrative changes in occupied Kashmir after India abrogated Article 370 from J&K and bifurcated the state.
He termed the nation-wide protests and violence against Citizenship Act and National Population Register (NPR) as a political and communal conspiracy and blamed Congress for it.
