5 men loot ₹14 lakh from Bhiwani bank at gunpoint
Masked miscreants came on two motorcycles at 11am, barged into PNB branch at Chang village, fired in the air and decamped with the money
HISAR : Five masked men looted Rs 14 lakh at gunpoint from a Punjab National Bank branch at Chang village of Bhiwani district on Thursday.
Police said CCTV footage shows the five masked robbers arriving on two motorcycles. One of them stayed outside the bank, while four overpowered the security guard and barged into the bank around 11am, waving pistols. They opened fire in the air to create panic. The robbers were inside the bank for 11 minutes and fled after taking away the cash.
Bank officials said a total of Rs 14.19 lakh was looted from the bank.
PNB branch manager Rajender Singh said, “One of the robbers overpowered guard Balwan Singh and asked him to sit on a chair kept near the bank entrance. Another opened fire in the air. One of them pushed me inside my cabin. I informed the police after they decamped with the cash.”
Bhiwani superintendent of police (SP) Ganga Ram Punia said that the police were trying to identify the accused from the CCTV footage. “We have received some important clues and the accused will be nabbed soon.”
He added, “We came to know that the robbers fled towards Meham town after committing the crime. We have formed 10 different teams under the leadership of DSP Bhiwani to arrest the robbers.”
The SP said they have also alerted the police of neighbouring districts.
Narender Singh, a customer who was in the bank at the time of the robbery, said, “Everyone was sacred when the robbers fired in the air.”
Ramkali Devi, another customer, said one of the robbers snatched her carry bag and asked her to sit in the corner.
We are scanning the CCTV footage and have got some important clues. The robbers will be arrested soon.
