JAMMU: A NIA court on Thursday extended the judicial remand of DSP Davinder Singh and four other accused, including Hizbul Mujahideen commander Naveed Babu, for another 15 days.

The remand was granted when Singh along with four others—naveed Babu, his accomplices Irfan Shafi Mir, Rafi Ahmad Rather and Syed Irfan Ahmad —were presented in the NIA special court.

On January 23, NIA special judge, Jammu, Subash C Gupta had granted 15-day remand of all the four accused to the agency.

Amid a strong posse of policemen, all four accused were taken to the NIA court from the rear gate of the high court complex in Janipur to avoid media persons.

“The judicial remand of DSP Davinder Singh and three others has been extended for 15 days. The DSP will be sent to the Hiranagar Jail in Kathua district while three other accused have been sent to Kot Balwal Jail on the outskirts of Jammu city,” a police official said.

NIA teams have been questioning the DSP in Jammu. Last month, NIA director general YC Modi had visited Jammu to personally review the investigations. On January 11, the police arrested Davinder Singh on the Jammu-srinagar national highway when he was allegedly transporting Naveed, Rafi and Irfan to Jammu in a car. After the initial investigations by the J&K police, the case was handed over to the NIA.

During search of the car, one AK-47 assault rifle, three pistols, five hand grenades, 174 live rounds of AK-47 and 36 live rounds of pistol and other incriminating material were recovered.

A case under Sections 18, 19,20,38 and 39 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, Section 7/25 of Arms Act and Section 3/4 of Explosive Substances Act was registered against the accused.
