JDU MP SEEKS CASTE-BASED CENSUS

NEW DELHI: The process of data collection for Census 2021 should include information on caste as well, said Janata Dal (United) member Ram Nath Thakur in Rajya Sabha on Friday. Raising the issue during Zero Hour, the JD(U) MP said that caste-based census should be conducted so that those who have not benefitted from reservation can be included in the ambit of reservations and all communities can get their rightful share in government schemes. “We and our (Bihar) hief minister Nitish Kumar have been raising the issue of caste-based census. The Supreme Court has also said that there should be scientific basis for reservations,” Thakur said. Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said, “Once you have Population Register, then you will have caste census also.”
