BAJWA WRITES TO CM OVER DUMPING OF ‘LAHAN’ IN RIVER

CHANDIGARH : Congress MP Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday expressed shock over the dumping of 1.30 lakh litres of lahan (raw material for making liquor) into the Sutlej and urged the Punjab government to proactively monitor and enforce environmental laws in the state. In a letter to chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, Bajwa said that he is extremely surprised that the government allowed the excise and taxation department to dump materials into rivers. “The message that is sent to the public here is that it is okay to dump whatever materials into our rivers, because the state government does it as well,” he wrote.
