Two more Covid-19 deaths, 57 fresh infections reported in J&K

Income Tax lawyer from Jammu and 65-year-old woman from Kulgam succumb to virus, toll 23; total number of positive cases rise to 1,668; 620 active cases in Kashmir

JAMMU: Two more persons died of Covid-19 in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, taking the toll in the Union Territory to 23.

The samples of an Income Tax lawyer, who died on Sunday in ASCOMS Hospital, jammu, came positive for coronaviru­s late on Sunday night, while the result of a 65-year-old woman from Kulgam, who died on Saturday, came positive for the disease on Monday.

With these fatalities, 20 persons have died in Kashmir and three in Jammu division due to the virus.

Meanwhile, 57 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, taking the total number of cases in the Union Territory to 1668, officials said.

Of the fresh infections, 33 have been reported from Jammu division-with. As many as 21 cases were reported from in Jammu, four from Kathua, two each from Udhampur, Poonch and Reasi and one each from Ramban and Doda on Monday, taking teh tally in Jammu divison to 294.

As many as 14 fresh cases were reported from Kashmir division, including Anantnag, Kulgam, Srinagar, Pulwama, Shopian and Kupwara districts, where the count of positive covid cases touched 1,374.

Meanwhile, out of 1668 positive cases—734 in Kashmir and 75 in Jammu division– have recovered in J&K so far.

Kashmir has 620 active cases while 216 are in Jammu.

Till date, 13,4873 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillan­ce which include 30,923 persons in home quarantine, including facilities operated by government, 60 in hospital quarantine and 30,521 under home surveillan­ce. Besides, 72,510 persons have completed their 28-day surveillan­ce period.

The health department Bulletin further said that 1,32,520 samples have tested as negative.
