TWO WOMEN SUFFERING FROM CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE DIE DUE TO COVID-19, DEATH TOLL IN STATE IS FIVE

DHARAMSHAL­A :Two women, both suffering from chronic kidney disease, died of Covid-19 on Monday, taking the total number of persons who have succumbed to the virus to five, while fresh positive cases breached 200 mark in Himachal Pradesh.

A 72-year-old woman died at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, on Sunday night. She was suffering from multi-organ ailments and was referred to the hospital from Hamirpur on May 22 where she had tested positive for Covid-19. Her 75-year-old husband is also a Covid-19 patient and is undergoing treatment.

The couple believed to have contracted the virus in Jalandhar during her visit to a private hospital, where she was undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment.

Another woman who was undergoing treatment for Covid-19 at Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College (LBSGMC), Nerchowk, died on Monday afternoon.

She had suffered renal failure and was undergoing dialysis, chief medical officer Jeevanand Chauhan said.she tested positive for the infection on May 20 and the source of infection remains unknown.

The state recorded its first Covid-19 death on March 23.

Meanwhile, the state’s tally touched 223 after twenty-six more people tested positive for Covid-19 late on Sunday and Monday. Eight cases were reported from Kangra, six from Una, four each from Chamba and Shimla, three from Bilaspur and one from Hamirpur. The state has 150 active cases, said special secretary, health, Nipun Jindal.

The Covid-19 cases in Himachal have doubled in five days. Himachal had recorded its 100th case on May 20.

It took exactly two months to reach the 100-mark. The first case was reported on March 20. As many as 125 people have tested positive in the last five days.

Fifty-one people who returned to Kangra from Maharashtr­a on Sunday in a special train have influenza-like illness symptoms. A total of 1,125 people stranded in Maharashtr­a and Gujarat arrived in two trains. Preliminar­y health screening for the segregatio­n of symptomati­c persons was done at the Una railway station.
