We all want things to go back to normal as quickly as possible, but, Athiya Shetty says what most people have probably not yet realised, is that things won’t go back to normal anytime soon. In fact, the actor feels social distancing will be the new normal in times to come.

“The world will clearly change. People need to introspect and be grateful about what they have. Other than that, as the world is going to change drastically in terms of social distancing, we have to make it a part of our lives forever, even when this pandemic ends,” Shetty shares, observing how the lockdown helped the environment. “I feel the environment should not be taken for granted, people should adopt a sustainable way of life,” she says.

However, when it comes to cinema-viewing and contentconsuming patterns, the 27year-old says they changed way before the lockdown. “The cinema vie wing experience is changing, not only due to the lockdown but also because of the content OTT platforms are coming up with. So many big films and big actors have taken to these platforms…,” she shares, adding OTT has given “a new lease of life” to many. “People have been watching my film Motichoor Chaknachoor (2019) and I’ve received so many positive responses on social media. A film might not do well in theatres but you get appreciated once it streams digitally,” she says.

So what about the future of theatres? “I also believe going to the theatres is something that can never be replaced,” Shetty adds.
