PATNA: With barely a week to go for the Bihar assembly polls, the ruling Janata Dal (United) on Thursday released its manifesto, focusing on a second version of its ‘seven resolves for governance’ -- first issued in 2015.

State president of JD ( U), Bashistha Narain Singh, said the party was committed to empower youngsters and pave the way for their growth and development through targeted programmes aimed at provide economic assistance for higher education and acquiring skills for self-employment and entrepreneurship development.

“We have fulfilled the promises made to the people of the state in 2015. This time too, all poll promises contained in the manifesto will be met and seven resolves, part 2, will be implemented throughout the state for providing a sustainable foundation to its growth and improving the living standards of both rural and urban population,” he said.

Taking a dig at the “tall promises” made by Rashtriya Janta Dal-led Grand Alliance, particularly those related to government jobs, the state JD (U) president said people should refrain from making false promises. “Today, inexperience is visible in the way Opposition leader [Tejashwi Yadav] is making commitments for providing 10 lakh jobs. From where will an estimated sum of ₹ 58,000 crore come,” he asked.

“Unlike leaders given to making false claims and promises, JD (U) national president and chief minister Nitish Kumar does not make commitments only for the sake of it...,” he added. In last poll, Nitish came to power with part 1 of “Saat Nischay” (seven resolves). At the time, he was an ally of the RJD.

JD(U)’S manifesto asserts that if voted to power, his government would launch part II of it. The first part of the seven resolves comprised seven schemes to ensure basic necessities such as supply of piped drinking water, construction of toilets and concrete drains and electricity connection to every household, which the chief minister claims have almost been achieved. Its second part will focus on enhancing the skill of youth to brighten their jobs prospects, promoting entrepreneurship among women.
