Capt to lay stone of sports varsity in Patiala tomorrow
PATIALA: Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh will lay foundation stone of four major development projects worth Rs 1,100 crore in his home town and constituency, Patiala, on Sunday ( October 25). The projects are the construction of Rs 500 crore sports university campus, canal-based water supply project worth Rs 497 crore, new modern inter-state bus terminal worth Rs 60 crore and the development of a Rs 43-crore heritage street.
Patiala deputy commissioner Kumar Amit said, “Complete arrangements have been made to execute these projects as these are key for development of the district.”
Mayor Sanjeev Sharma said, “These are much-awaited projects. Heritage Street project will boost tourism and the canalbased water supply plan help ensure round the clock water supply to residents,” he said.
The canal-based water supply project was announced in 2018, with the Patiala MC acquiring 31.6 acre at Ablowal village. Tenders are in the bidding state. The Rs 497 crore project is a joint venture of the state and the Centre. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is the main financial sponsor.
Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University will come up over 96 acre at Sidhuwal village at a cost of Rs 500 crore. Three administrative blocks and separate hostels for boys and girls with capacity of 400 each will be built in the first phase. A dream project of the CM, the Rs 43-crore project will be completed within 18 months.
