20 Dharamshal­a monks among 55 test Covid +ve in HP

AROUND 40 MONKS OF GYUTO TANTRIC MONASTERY IN DHARAMSHAL­A HAVE CONTRACTED THE VIRUS IN THE PAST THREE DAYS

SHIMLA: Twenty Buddhist monks of Dharamshal­a-based Gyuto Tantric monastery were among 55 people who tested positive for Covid-19 in Himachal on Saturday taking the state’s case tally to 58,598. No death was reported.

Around 40 monks of the Gyuto monastery have been tested positive for the virus in the past three days.

Of the new cases, 24 were reported in Kangra, 16 in Shimla, six in Sirmaur, five in Una two in Mandi and one each in Hamirpur and Solan.

Recoveries in the state have reached 57,311 after 24 more people were cured. There are 292 active cases in the state.

Shimla is the worst-hit district with 10,487 cases, followed by Mandi with 10,285 and Kangra with 8,431 cases. Solan has 6,785 cases, Kullu 4,447, Sirmaur 3,508, Hamirpur 3,056, Una 3,020, Chamba 2,975, Bilaspur 2,961, Kinnaur 1,385, and Lahaul-spiti has 1,258 cases. A total of 10,93,715 tests have been conducted in the state so far.

97 fresh infections reported in J&K

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday recorded 97 fresh coronaviru­s infections taking the total cases to 1,26,383 while the death toll stood at 1,956 with no fresh fatalities.

As many as 24 positive cases were reported from Jammu division and 73 from Kashmir division, including 36 travellers.

Moreover, 72 more patients recovered, including three from Jammu division and 69 from Kashmir division. The officials said 1,23,599 people have recuperate­d in the UT so far taking the recovery rate to 97.79%.

In Kashmir, the highest jump in fresh cases was witnessed in Srinagar where 44 more people each tested positive including 26 travellers, while 10 more cases were reported in Baramulla.

In Jammu division, the highest 11 cases each were recorded in Jammu and Udhampur districts.
