J&K SEES RECORD SINGLE-DAY SPIKE OF 5,443 VIRUS CASES, 50 MORE SUCCUMB

Jammu and Kashmir on Friday recorded its biggest single-day jump of 5,443 Covid-19 cases that pushed its infection tally to 2,06,954, while 50 more fatalities took the death toll to 2,612, officials said.

Of the fresh cases, 1,868 were reported from the Jammu division and 3,575 from the Kashmir division of the union territory, they said.

Srinagar district recorded the highest number of fresh cases at 1,071, followed by 639 in Jammu and 568 in Anantnag.

There are 44,307 active Covid-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir, while 1,60,035 patients have recovered so far, the officials said.

Of the 50 deaths reported in the union territory, 29 were from the Jammu region and 21 from Kashmir valley, they said.

Earlier on Wednesday, 52 people had lost their lives to the disease. This is second time in the month when the death toll crossed 50.

April had recorded the highest monthly case tally of 45,123 infections and 289 deaths this year as against 4,519 cases and 37 deaths in March.

L-G visits Covid hospitals in Jammu

Lt governor Manoj Sinha visited Covid care hospitals here on Friday and stressed the need for senior doctors to have personal interactio­n with patients and their attendants to ensure better treatment. Sinha visited the government hospital in Gandhi Nagar, Chest Disease and TB Hospital, and Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), and took the first-hand appraisal of the infrastruc­ture and patient care management at these facilities.

During his visits, the L-G enquired about the number of patients being treated at the hospitals, patients discharged after recovery and availabili­ty of oxygen-supported beds.
