Himachal logs record-high 5,424 new Covid infections

Himachal Pradesh hit a new peak on Saturday, recording 5,424 fresh Covid-19 infections taking the state’s tally to 1,28,330.

This is the highest singleday spike since the outbreak last year. The state recorded the highest cases on the third consecutiv­e day. Earlier, the highest single-day spike was recorded on Friday, when the state recorded 4,190 new cases.

The death toll mounted to 1,817 after 37 more patients succumbed to the virus.

Of the new cases, the highest, 1,260, were reported in

Kangra district, followed by Mandi, where 981 people were detected, and Solan, with 670 infections.

The active cases in the state breached the 30,000mark on Saturday, taking the current tally to 31,893 active cases.

Recoveries have reached 94,586 after a record 3,007 people recuperate­d—highest single-day figure. However, the recovery rate has further slipped to 73.7%.

Kangra, the most populous district in Himachal, has breached the 25,000-mark. The district total caseload has reached 25,613.
