-

Taking cognizance of over-pricing and exorbitant rates of vegetables, fruits and groceries in various parts of the district, Haridwar district administration has made putting up rate list mandatory for the shopkeepers.

District magistrate C Ravi Shankar has directed sub divisional magistrate, city magistrate, tehsildar, food supplies officer, weight measurement department officials to carry out impromptu checking of such shops in the market.

Rate list is being put up at shops, and vendors are being warned that if they resorted to over-pricing, stern legal action will be taken against them.

“Directives have been given to traders to ensure compliance to the administrative directives. Affixing of rate list is mandatory and challan will be issued against violators,” said SDM Gopal Singh Chauhan.

Mahanagar Vyapar Mandal has also urged traders and vendors to ensure they put up rate list and not overcharge.

Amita Ohri, a resident of Khanna Nagar, said vegetable and fruit vendors were charging double rates since curfew was imposed in Haridwar.
