JAMMU : A day after the Border Security Force opened fire at a suspected Pakistani drone along the Indo-pak international border in Arnia sector, another drone tried to venture into Indian territory along the Line of Control in Pallanwala sector of Akhnoor in Jammu late on Wednesday.

An officer, who did not wish to be named said around 9.10pm, soldiers spotted the drone that had intruded around 150m inside the Indian territory.

“The jawans immediately opened small arms fire but could not bring it down. The Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) flew back into Pakistani territory, the officer said, adding that the flying machines were being used to surveil India’s border with Pakistan.

A search of the area did not yield any result.

Increased sightings

Pakistan-sponsored forces have been using drones to drop arms, ammunition, weapons, drugs and money to fund and fuel terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

On June 27, two explosiveladen drones had dropped payloads on the Indian Air Force station in Jammu.

Two security personnel had been injured in the twin blasts.

Since then drones have been spotted hovering over military stations in Kaluchak, Ratnuchak, Kunjwani and Sunjuwan in Jammu at regular intervals.

Reports of drone sighting near IAF station

Meanwhile, a section of the media reported that another drone was spotted by the forces hovering over the IAF station in Jammu late Wednesday.

It was reported that the forces were able to thwart an alleged terror bid with the help of anti-drone equipment, which detected the UAV and eliminated it. However, the incident is yet to be confirmed by defence authorities.

An official, who insisted on anonymity, said, “A white light was seen by the guards near the IAF station late on Wednesday. It was most probably a satellite and not a drone.”
