PGIMS Rohtak stops elective surgeries
Decision effective from Monday (January 10) and taken in view of the increasing number of Covid-19 cases
ROHTAK: In view of rise in the number of Covid-19 and Omicron variant cases, the authorities at the Post-graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS), Rohtak have decided to stop elective surgeries from January 10 (Monday).
A letter issued by PGIMS medical superintendent Dr Ishwar Singh said that they have decided to stop elective surgeries related to all surgical broad specialties and super speciality including oral and maxillofacial surgeries from January 10.
“Emergency OT facility will be used for giving emergency operative services to Covid suspected patients. OPD services will be closed except in the department of obstetrics and gynaecology, medicines, chest and respiratory medicine, paediatrics, and radiotherapy.
Maximum OPD registration of all these, except radiotherapy, will be 300 patients per day. Radiotherapy OPD will register up to 100 patients. The ENT department will run flu clinic and OPD services,” the MS add
Students asked to vacate hostels
The PGIMS authorities on Saturday
asked students to vacate hostels after 35 students were found infected with the virus. All the examinations have also been postponed until further orders.
PGIMS director Dr Shamsher Singh Lohchab said hostels will be vacated as soon as possible.
“Only those students who have difficulty in reaching their homes can be considered to stay at the hostel if there is no local guardian. All interns (MBBS/ BDS and other allied branches), MSC nursing, BSC nursing final year, Mpt/mpharma and any other classes who can help with patient management will be allowed to stay in hostels,” the director added.

45 staff members test positive
Forty-five staff members of PGIMS have tested positive for the virus, taking the total number of cases here to 76. PGIMS spokesman Dr Varun Arora said 15 staffers were found positive on January 6, 16 on January 7, and 45 on Saturday.
