12 passengers hurt in flight turbulence

At least 12 passengers were injured when a Spicejet aircraft plying from Mumbai to Durgapur encountere­d severe turbulence after it got caught in a storm during descent, officials said. However, the exact number of passengers injured was not known. Those injured were provided immediate medical assistance upon arrival in Durgapur. The incident occurred in Spicejet Boeing B737 aircraft SG-945. In an official notificati­on, a Spicejet spokespers­on expressed regret at the unfortunat­e incident and said the airline is providing all possible medical help to the injured. “The aircraft landed safely at Durgapur. The injured passengers were taken to hospital after they were given medical assistance on arrival,” aviation officials said. A probe is underway to ascertain how the plane got caught in the storm. The plane ran into major mid-air turbulence following extreme bad weather, officials said.
