Till the end of May 2020, the global excess deaths were in the negative – suggesting that early lockdowns were in fact reducing even normal deaths. However, as the global pandemic surged creating brutal waves in North America, Europe and Asia, the cumulative excess toll surged as well. By the end of 2020, 4.5 million excess deaths appeared to have been caused, which then soared by another 10 million in 2021, the WHO report said
