ROHTAK: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday inaugurated e-adhigam scheme for distribution of tablets to five lakh students enrolled at government schools in Classes 10 and 12.

The chief minister, along with state education minister Kanwar Pal Gurjar, launched the scheme from Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak and the tablet distribution programme was organised at 119 places in state.

Khattar virtually connected with teachers, students, parents, ministers and administrative officials. Students of Classes 10 and 12 from six government schools in Rohtak physically attended the function.

Interacting with students, Khattar said takhtee (slate) was their main education tool when he was studying in Class 9 in 1968.

“Now, tablets have replaced them. Geeta came out of Mahabharata. In the same way, online education has emerged out of tough Covid-19 situation. During Covid crisis, after health, it was education that suffered the most,” he said.

“Many students’ education was affected as their parents could not afford mobile phones. So, we have decided to provide tablets to students. From next year, we will provide tablets from Classes 9 to 12. Now, students have their classroom in their hands,” he added.

Khattar said small countries, including Israel and Finland, have emerged as role models in information technology and his government is aiming to make Haryana a giant in the IT sector.

“School-going students will be taught about cloud computing, robots, etc with an aim to make them advance in IT. Haryana has become the first state in country to provide tablets at such a large scale. We have formed two task forces – one to provide infrastructure, building, boundary wall, beautification, cleanliness, roads, water and toilets and other essential requirements of schools, while the other will ensure arrangement of furniture, etc in schools,” the CM added.

He said Haryana’s contribution is nearly 10% in armed forces but its share is less in terms of officers. “Our government will provide free NDA coaching to students so that they can join the officers’ ranks,” he added.

Students of government schools in Rohtak gifted handmade cards to the CM on his birthday.

‘Jio chosen as one of the network providers’

Reliance Jio has been selected as one of the network providers under the e-adhigam (advanced digital Haryana initiative of government with adaptive modules) programme. The operator was selected through a tender process on the basis of its commercial and technical prowess.

Khattar said during the first phase of the scheme, five lakh students studying in Classes 10 and 12 at government schools in Haryana will be given free tablets.
