MUMBAI: Independent MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana walked out of jail on Thursday, a day after a Mumbai court granted them bail in a sedition case.

The two were arrested on charges of sedition and promoting enmity after announcing to recite the Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray’s residence last month.

A sessions court on Wednesday granted the bail to the couple on furnishing a personal bond of ₹50,000 each and with one or two sureties in the same amount. The court granted the duo eight weeks to produce the sureties and allowed their release on provisional cash bail.

After being granted bail, the necessary documents had not timely reached the prisons where they were lodged.

As Amravati MP Navneet Rana was released from Byculla Jail on Thursday, she was taken to Lilavati Hospital in the city for a medical check-up.

Ravi Rana, MLA from Badnera in Amravati, was also released from the Taloja jail in neighbouring Navi Mumbai.
