Lakhimpur case: Prosecutio­n opposes discharge plea by Union minister’s son

LAKHIMPUR KHERI: The discharge applicatio­n of Ashish Mishra ‘Monu’, son of union minister of state for home, Ajay Mishra ‘Teni’ and the main accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case of October 3, last year, was opposed by the prosecutio­n in the district court on Tuesday.

Monu was separately brought to the district court for the hearing of the discharge applicatio­n amid tight security.

Twelve other co-accused in the case, were brought to the court too.

District government counsel (DGC), criminal, Arvind Tripathi said apart from Monu, objections to the discharge applicatio­ns of three other co-accused Ullas alias Mohit Trivedi, Sumit Jaiswal and Ashish Pandey were also filed on Tuesday.

Tripathi said five other co-accused Ankit Das, Shekhar Bharti, Latif alias Kale, Nandan Singh Bisht and Satyam Tripathi too moved their discharge applicatio­ns in the court to which the prosecutio­n sought time from the court to file objections to the discharge applicatio­ns.

Tripathi said accepting the request of the prosecutio­n, district and sessions judge Mukesh Mishra fixed May 24 as the next date of hearing.

Twelve other co-accused, who too are in jail were brought to the court. After the court proceeding­s, all of them were sent back to district jail.

On Oct 3, 2021 eight persons including four farmers and a journalist were killed in Tikunia area of Lakhimpur Kheri, triggering a political storm due to the alleged involvemen­t of MOS home Ajay Kumar Mishra Teni’s son Ashish.
