TWO MILITANTS KILLED IN ANANTNAG GUNFIGHT

SRINAGAR: : Two militants were killed in a gunfight that broke out in Kreeri in the Dooru area of Anantnag district on Tuesday.

The slain terrorists were identified as Arif Hussain Bhat, a resident of Halsidar Dooru, and Suhail Ahmad Lone, a resident of Awgam Kulgam, police said. They were affiliated to

Lashkar-e-taiba. Kashmir IG Vijay Kumar said with the killing of the two terrorist, an imminent threat to the Srinagar-jammu national highway and the Amarnath Yatra has been neutralise­d.

“As per police records, both the categorise­d killed terrorists were part of groups involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on Police/sf and civilian atrocities,” said a police spokesman. Incriminat­ing material, arms and ammunition including two AK rifles, a pistol and two grenades were recovered from the site of the encounter.

Civilian injured during Shopian encounter dies

A civilian who was injured in an encounter at Shopian on Monday night succumbed to his injuries, while the militants taking advantage of the darkness fled from the spot.

“At 8.30 pm, while our own teams were establishi­ng a cordon around the target house, the terrorists started firing in all directions. Lance Naik Sanjib Das, and two civilians Shahid Gani Dar and Suhaib Ahmad received gunshot wounds,” said a police spokespers­on.

“All the injured were immediatel­y evacuated in an army helicopter to the 92 Base Hospital, Srinagar. Shahid Gani Dar succumbed to his injuries. The other injured civilian, Suhaib Ahmad is reported to be critical but stable,” he added.
