Low-cost insurance for ‘missing middle’
The editorial, Extend health cover to the ‘missing middle’ (HT May 10), has rightly brought out the inconsistencies of health cover to the unorganised poor who work on daily wages. They include labourers working in our fields and factories, building roads and those engaged in construction activities and also the rehriwalas. When people in these categories fall sick or need hospitalisation, they sell their meagre belongings or take loans. A practical and responsive low-cost insurance cover for this ‘missing middle’ would go a long way to help them during periods of illness.
