British-era sedition law: Centre’s U-turn welcome
This is with reference to the report, Will review sedition law provisions: Centre to SC (HT, May 10). When we know that this British-era law was introduced in the late 19th century just to muzzle the freedom struggle and even the UK has repealed it, why even 75 years after Independence does it continue to remain in our law books? The U-turn by the Centre to re-examine the sedition law seems to have been the result of PM Narendra Modi’s prodding remark of shedding colonial baggage, but still it is a welcome flip-flop.
