Socialised healthcare

-

My uncle recently had a health scare when he suddenly started experiencing sharp chest pains at midnight. He was admitted to a private hospital and it was revealed that two of his arteries were almost blocked. The hospital inserted two stents in his heart, which cost him nearly ₹3 lakh. However, the health insurance company refused to provide him any medical aid, and the hospital wouldn’t let my uncle leave until the dues were paid. Annually, Indians pay obscene amounts of outof-pocket money on healthcare, which should be one of the most basic human rights. It is high time that India adopts a socialised healthcare system like the National Health Service in the UK. Prateek Sachdeva Mohali
