KIN OF MAN WHO DIED IN ROMANIA PROTEST IN AMBALA AGAINST ‘POLICE INACTION’
AMBALA : Family members and relatives of Gurvinder, a Shahabad resident, who reportedly died in Romania on his way to Italy, blocked National Highway 44 on Wednesday against alleged police inaction.
The family carried the deceased’s body, that arrived the same day, to Ambala Cantonment and protested outside Shastri Colony, where home minister Anil Vij’s residence is located, for nearly 30 minutes.
The deceased’s relatives alleged that he was sent to Italy by agents in July through illegal means (donkey) and he was found dead in Romania in September, while the agents told them that he was jailed.
As the protesters demanded action in the case, the police resorted to mild lathicharge to allow traffic movement.
Police claimed a case of immigration fraud was registered in October in Kurukshetra district in the matter and out of the three accused, two had been arrested.
Later, a few of the protesters met Vij, who called the Kurukshetra superintendent of police (SP) to arrest the remaining accused at the earliest.
Ambala Cantt DSP Ram Kumar said, “With the intention of creating pressure, the family carried the body from Shahabad and wanted to take it to the minister’s residence. However, they were not allowed to do so.”
Ambala SP Jashandeep Singh Randhawa said a case will be registered against the protesters for blocking the highway and attacking the police party.
