Mr Troubleshooter

-

Amritsar police commissioner Jaskaran Singh emerged as the key troubleshooter when the Punjab government was working to convince protesting farmer leader and Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur) chief Jagjit Singh Dallewal to end the hunger strike. When the state authorities picked the 1998-batch IPS officer from another police jurisdiction to negotiate with farmers in Faridkot, many were surprised. Jaskaran held on-record talks twice with the protesters, including when agriculture minister Kuldeep Dhaliwal rushed to Faridkot to persuade Dallewal to wind up the protest on the final day. The IPS officer is presently posted in Dhaliwal’s home district of Amritsar.
