: The anti-drug special task force (STF) of Punjab Police have arrested a man and recovered eight pistols along with their ammunition and 2 kg of heroin smuggled via drone from Pakistan, officials said.
The arrested man has been identified as Paramjit Singh alias Pamma of Havelian village in Tarn Taran district. Havelian village is situated at a stone’s throw distance from the international border. Police said the recovered consignment was received by the arrested man at the instance of his Dubai-based handler identified as Kuldeep Singh.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Stf-amritsar, Vawinder Mahajan said Pamma was arrested based on a tip-off.
“We recovered 2 kg and 20 gms of heroin, eight pistols and 20 magazines. The pistols include Glock (made in Turkey), and the rest are made in China. We have also recovered 63 live rounds. Pamma was on his way to hand over the consignment of drugs, arms and ammunition when he was arrested,” Mahajan said. “Our investigation has found that Kuldeep had sent the consignment for Pamma via drone in collusion with a Pakistan-based smuggler Thekedar,” he said. He said their investigation to ascertain the identity of those who were to get the smuggled consignment in India was still on. A case under various sections of the arms act and the NDPS act has been registered at the STF’S Mohali police station in this regard.
