Congress vows RO systems, tax waivers
NEW DELHI: The Congress on Wednesday released its manifesto for the upcoming municipal elections scheduled for December 4, promising RO water purifiers for the poor, day-boarding facilities at municipal schools, and the waiver of house tax dues.
Unveiling the manifesto, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate alleged the water supplied by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was contaminated and “unfit” for regular use. “The water provided by the MCD has never been fit for regular use, forget consumption. It is extremely contaminated. Delhi Congress promises ‘Saaf Paani Wali Dilli, Sheila Dikshit Wali Dilli’,” Shrinate said.
The Congress also promised a pollution- and garbage-free national capital by clearing landfill sites and providing better parking facilities.
Shrinate added, “Day-boarding facilities will be started in municipal schools. This will not only empower the poor but also end child labour.”
Double-engine key, say BJP leaders, ministers
Several senior BJP leaders, Union ministers and CMS flooded the streets of Delhi on Wednesday, as the party that governed the city’s civic body for 15 years aimed to drum up support among voters and stave off AAP, accusing it of turning the city into a hub of “pollution and crime”.
Union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Jyotiraditya Scindia, CMS Jai Ram Thakur (HP), Pushkar Singh Dhami (Uttarakhand) and Shivraj Singh Chouhan (MP) campaigned for the BJP, imploring voters to pick the party for the benefits of a “double-engine” government.
