Electoral bonds way of corrupting democracy
Himachal Pradesh went to the polls on November 12 and counting of votes will be done on December 8. In Gujarat, the first phase of elections was held on December 1 and the next will be on December 5 for which all parties are campaigning. The amount of money they can be spend in elections is fixed. But getting funding in the form of electoral bonds is unprecedented. These bonds can be bought by any individual or company from the State Bank of India. An SBI report said electoral bonds worth ₹545 crore have been received by political parties during the auction conducted from October 1 to 10. The total amount has gone up to ₹10,791 crore through anonymous donors since 2018 when the bond was introduced. NGOS such as the Association for Democratic Reforms have often opposed this idea as they say this is a way of corrupting democracy. Tejasvi Khatri Mohali
