Drone shot down along Pak border; 2-kg heroin seized
AMRITSAR: The troopers of border security force (BSF) shot down a drone, which had sneaked into the Indian territory near the Roranwala Kalan village, 5 kms from the Wagah border. With the gunning down of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the BSF also recovered 2 kg of heroin and 100 gm of opium. T
he contraband was carried for smuggling purpose by the drone. The incident took place during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, when the personnel on duty heard a buzzing sound of a flying object. “As per the drill, the troopers tried to intercept the suspected flying object by firing.
The whole area was cordoned and the sister agencies, including Punjab Police were duly informed,” said a BSF spokesperson. He said, “On Monday morning, a search operation was launched and a quadcopter—dji matrice 300RTK AMRITSAR300 (made in China)—was recovered from a farmland.
Two packets of heroin (weight approximately 2 kg) and a small packet containing 100 gm of opium were also recovered near the drone. This is the 6th drone gunned down by border security force (BSF) at the Punjab border with Pakistan in the period of one week. A senior BSF official, who wished not to be named, said, “Since the foggy season has begun, we have been witnessing increased movement of drones at the border. Sometimes, drones, which fly high, return after delivering contrabands.” On Friday, five Assault rifles along with five magazines and five pistols along with five magazines were recovered in Ferozepur sector. Similarly, on Saturday, 7.5 kg of heroin, a pistol, 2 magazines and 50 live rounds suspected to be dropped by a drone were recovered in Fazilka district.
