Melissa Mccarthy set to be hon­oured as a pop­u­lar icon

Ghost­busters ac­tor Melissa Mccarthy will re­ceive her first Peo­ple’s Icon award. She’ll re­ceive the hon­our at the E! Peo­ple’s Choice Awards on Sun­day, ac­cord­ing to Hol­ly­wood re­

The ac­tor is be­ing hon­oured for her tele­vi­sion and film work, which in­cludes play­ing the tit­u­lar char­ac­ter on the sit­com Mike and Molly, as well as roles in Spy, Ghost­busters, and Brides­maids.

“Melissa Mccarthy is a multi-tal­ented ac­tor, writer, pro­ducer and di­rec­tor and who has starred in some of the most iconic movies and tele­vi­sion shows of the past decade,” says Jen Neal, ex­ec­u­tive pro­ducer of live events at E!

“She is beloved by the peo­ple, and we couldn’t think of any­one more fit­ting or de­serv­ing to hon­our as the Peo­ple’s Icon of 2018.”

Mccarthy has won two Em­mys, for Best Lead Ac­tress in a Com­edy Se­ries for Mike and Molly; and Best Guest Ac­tress in a Com­edy Se­ries for her ap­pear­ances as for­mer White House press sec­re­tary Sean Spicer on Sat­ur­day Night Live.

She also re­ceived a Best Sup­port­ing Ac­tress Os­car nom­i­na­tion in 2012 for Brides­maids.

Mccarthy cur­rently stars in the bio­graph­i­cal drama Can You Ever For­give Me? as real-life forger Lee Is­rael, and has played a de­tec­tive in this year’s pup­pet com­edy The Hap­py­time Mur­ders.

The ac­tor has also won four Peo­ple’s Choice Awards, three in the Comedic Movie Ac­tress cat­e­gory and one in the Comedic TV Ac­tress cat­e­gory. She was in the 2016 re­make of the 1984 hor­ror com­edy clas­sic Ghost­busters.

The re­make had a women-led cast, un­like the orig­i­nal.
