Puri is new IT sec­re­tary

■ CHANDI­GARH: In a move that would fi­nally in­crease the strength of Arunachal PradeshGoa-mi­zo­ram-union Ter­ri­to­ries (AGMUT) cadre IAS of­fi­cers in the UT sec­re­tariat, the Chandi­garh ad­min­is­tra­tion has ap­pointed Pr­erna Puri as a new sec­re­tary.

KK Sharma, ad­vi­sor to the ad­min­is­tra­tor, con­firmed that Puri had been given the charge of de­part­ments of in­for­ma­tion tech­nol­ogy and house al­lot­ment com­mit­tee.

The decision has al­ready been taken and for­mal or­ders in this re­gard would be re­leased soon, he said. But, the po­si­tion of the depart­ment is held by se­nior Pun­jab cadre IAS of­fi­cer VK Singh.

Be­sides, Sharma, Satya Gopal chair­man, Chandi­garh Hous­ing Board (CHB), Puri would be the third sec­re­tary level of­fi­cer of the Arunachal Pradesh-goa-mi­zo­ram-union Ter­ri­to­ries (AGMUT) cadre in the UT ad­min­is­tra­tion. Other of­fi­cers, who are serv­ing as sec­re­taries in the UT sec­re­tariat are: home sec­re­tary Anil Kumar, fi­nance sec­re­tary VK Singh and MD CITCO DK Ti­wari. While Kumar is Haryana cadre IAS of­fi­cer, other two are of­fi­cers of Pun­jab cadre.


A Pun­jab-cadre 1996-batch IAS of­fi­cer, Vivek Pratap Singh on Tues­day took over as the new com­mis­sioner of Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion of Chandi­garh (MC). Pratap has re­placed a 2006-batch Agmut-cadre IAS of­fi­cer Pr­erna Puri, who has been re­tained by UT ad­min­is­tra­tion as sec­re­tary.

Pratap came to MC of­fice with Pr­erna Puri at around 3.30pm. "My pri­or­i­ties will be de­vel­op­ment of the city beau­ti­ful, but since I am new to this of­fice, it will take some time for me to set­tle down," Pratap told HT.

Singh was ear­lier posted as di­rec­tor, tech­ni­cal ed­u­ca­tion and lot­ter­ies, Pun­jab. He has also served at chief ad­min­is­tra­tor of Greater Mohali Area De­vel­op­ment Au­thor­ity (GMADA).
