Armed rob­bers strike at Sec­tor 20 gur­d­wara

CHANDI­GARH: About a dozen rob­bers armed with sharp-edged weapons en­tered a gur­d­wara in Sec­tor 20 at around 3.40 am on Sun­day af­ter over­pow­er­ing the guard and took away Rs 1.5 lakh cash and some im­por­tant doc­u­ments.

Giv­ing de­tails of the in­ci­dent, gur­d­wara com­mit­tee pres­i­dent In­der­pal Singh said the rob­bers locked up the guard, Pawan­jeet Singh, and granthi Sat­want Singh in a room and took their mo­bile phones. Af­ter smash­ing the CCTV cam­eras in­stalled on the premises, they broke into the gur­d­wara of­fice and took away Rs 1.5 lakh cash and some im­por­tant doc­u­ments. In­ter­est­ingly, be­fore leav­ing, they re­leased the granthi and the guard and re­turned their mo­bile phones, but threat­ened them against dis­clos­ing their iden­tity.

Act­ing on a com­plaint by the gur­d­wara man­age­ment, the The gur­d­wara staff show­ing the almi­rah from where the rob­bers took away lakh and some im­por­tant doc­u­ments. po­lice have ar­rested for­mer gur­d­wara com­mit­tee pres­i­dent Har­cha­ran Singh, for­mer granthis Gurse­wak Singh and Lakhwinder Singh, kir­tan ragi Sukhjit Singh and se­wadar Natha Singh. A case has been reg­is­tered at the Sec­tor 19 po­lice sta­tion.

The po­lice are on the look­out for Jathedar Kan­waljit Singh Khalsa and se­wadar Gur­deep Singh. The po­lice said Khalsa had ar­ranged some Ni­hangs to com­mit the rob­bery on the direc­tions of Har­cha­ran Singh.
