CHANDI­GARH: Ad­di­tional dis­trict and ses­sions judge Ved Prakash Sirohi on Mon­day awarded life term to the four ac­cused in­volved in the kid­nap­ping of a sev­enyear-old boy, Japjit Singh, a res­i­dent of Sec­tor 38.

The ac­cused in­clude Prem Singh (21) of Kis­hangarh, San­deep Ku­mar (25) of Dhanas, and Ke­sar Singh (21) and Manish (21), both res­i­dents of Thaska vil­lage of Ya­mu­nana­gar dis­trict.

Japjit Singh, son of a gov­ern­ment em­ployee, was kid­napped from the Sec­tor 38 mar­ket while he was go­ing for his tu­ition classes. There­after, the boy’s fa­ther re­ceived a call from the kid­nap­pers, ask­ing for a ran­som of Rs 20 lakh. On Novem­ber 29, 2008, a ran­som of Rs 3.35 lakh was paid. As de­manded by the kid­nap­pers, the bag con­tain­ing the money was thrown from an over­bridge on to the road. The child was set free and found in the park­ing of Rose Gar­den. On De­cem­ber 1, 2008, the po­lice ap­pre­hended San­deep and three oth­ers.
