City player Abhishek named Hungarian cricketer of the year
CHANDIGARH: City cricketer Abhishek Khetarpal has been named Hungarian cricketer of the year for the second time in the row by the country’s board.
Hungary is an International Cricket Council (ICC) affiliate member.
An all-rounder Khetarpal shifted to Hungary three years back.
He grew up in Chandigarh playing cricket for Manav Mangal School and later for Government Model Senior Secondary School-16.
In the recently concluded Hungarian CGS T20 league final Khetarpal playing for Budapest Falcons shined with both bat and ball to help his side defeat Royal Tigers by nine runs.
He scored 52 runs inclusive of four boundaries and two sixes to help his side set up a target of 146 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.
And later he took one wicket for 32 runs in his quota of four overs.
Budapest falcons also topped the MPI 35 league table this season with eight wins from nine matches.
The MPI 35 is a 35 over tournament per team in which each bowler gets a quota of seven overs.
In the league the city pacer finished with best bowling figures of 6 for 17 in MPI 35 league.
The pacer was also highest wicket taker in the league finishing with 22 wickets off 214 runs at an economy of 9.73.
