City player Ab­hishek named Hun­gar­ian crick­eter of the year

CHANDIGARH: City crick­eter Ab­hishek Khetarpal has been named Hun­gar­ian crick­eter of the year for the sec­ond time in the row by the coun­try’s board.

Hun­gary is an In­ter­na­tional Cricket Coun­cil (ICC) af­fil­i­ate mem­ber.

An all-rounder Khetarpal shifted to Hun­gary three years back.

He grew up in Chandigarh play­ing cricket for Manav Man­gal School and later for Government Model Se­nior Sec­ondary School-16.

In the re­cently con­cluded Hun­gar­ian CGS T20 league fi­nal Khetarpal play­ing for Bu­dapest Fal­cons shined with both bat and ball to help his side de­feat Royal Tigers by nine runs.

He scored 52 runs in­clu­sive of four bound­aries and two sixes to help his side set up a tar­get of 146 for the loss of seven wick­ets in 20 overs.

And later he took one wicket for 32 runs in his quota of four overs.

Bu­dapest fal­cons also topped the MPI 35 league ta­ble this sea­son with eight wins from nine matches.

The MPI 35 is a 35 over tour­na­ment per team in which each bowler gets a quota of seven overs.

In the league the city pacer fin­ished with best bowl­ing fig­ures of 6 for 17 in MPI 35 league.

The pacer was also high­est wicket taker in the league fin­ish­ing with 22 wick­ets off 214 runs at an econ­omy of 9.73.
