Patiala to get alternative route to Delhi
PATIALA: To decongest National Highway-1, Road Surface Transport Ministry has approved an alternative NH route to Patiala and Sangrur from Delhi — which will go via Pehowa and Kurkshetra.
Now, instead of going to Rajpura and Ambala, the people of Patiala, Sangrur, and Ludhiana can travel directly to Kurukshetra via Pehowa and Pipli through the Patiala road. Transport minister Nitin Gadkari has given the inprinciple approval and the state government has started work to inaugurate this project before the 2017 assembly elections. It will shorten the journey by an hour from Sangrur.
One of the legs will be stretched to Yamunagar from Kurukshetra, while the other will transcend into the NH-1. Anandpur Sahib MP Prem Singh Chandumajra said that the final notification was expected soon, though project report for four-laning was in the works. His son, Harinderpal Singh Chandumajra, is contesting from Sanaur, where the road starts. It will run for 90 kilometres, of which 33 km is in Punjab and the rest in Haryana.
