SRINAGAR: A soldier was wounded on Thursday when army foiled an infiltration bid by militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, an army official said.
The official said militants were attempting to sneak in into this side of Kashmir in Kupwara’s Tangdhar sector.
“Alert troops fired at a group of militants trying to infiltrate in the morning, thus forcing them to flee back,” the official said. He added that a soldier has been wounded in the firing. “He has been evacuated and is stable,” the official said. The army has launched a search operation after the incident.
On August 23, Army chief General Dalbir Singh had visited various army units on LoC in north Kashmir, where he was briefed on the operational preparedness of the force.
Army officials said the General was informed about the killing of 10 militants over the past one month in various counter infiltration operations.
However, these operations also led to death and injuries to some security forces personnel. Thursday’s incident is the third case of confrontation between militants and security forces in Kupwara district since August 8 when three BSF personnel and a militant were killed in a gunfight close to the LoC.
On August 21, three militants were killed in a gunfight, which erupted in Tangdhar.
