Young weightlifter killed in road mishap

ROHTAK: A young weightlifter was killed when a car he was travelling in collided with a truck in Bhiwani on Thursday.

Paras, 19, his friend Amit and coach Sandeep were on their way to Loharu in a Swift Dzire when a truck going ahead of them suddenly applied brakes, leading to a collision between the two vehicles.

Paras died on the spot whereas Amit and Sandeep sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Chaudhary Bansi Lal civil hospital in the district. Paras was a native of Gaggharwas village of the district, but was living with his family in Loharu.

Eyewitnesses said the accident took place due to the mistake of the truck driver, who abandoned his vehicle and fled the spot. “We have booked the truck driver under Section 304 (culpable homicide). Police teams have been sent out to nab him,” investigation officer Narender Kumar said.
